Big Bar Guest Ranch has got new managers
Susan Thorup and Steen Moeller Madsen came to Big Bar Guest Ranch in the beginning of May 2009. They are both from Denmark. Steen has a University Degree M.A. Psychologi and has had his own consulting company doing leader training and team building. He has also been coach for the MBA Students etc. Susan has worked as an event manager at Denmark’s National Equestrian Centre for many years.
Here is what they have experienced
When we came to Big Bar Guest Ranch for the first time in November 2008 together with the owner we immediately could see the potential of the Ranch. British Columbia and especially this area is one of the most breathtaking places in the World and we now know why many vehicles’ number plates say “Beautiful British Columbia”. We really love to be here.
The Staff welcomed us with such a great kindness and warmth that we got overwhelmed. The neighbors are very friendly and helpful so we already have good relationships. They invited to participate in the “Branding” and the “Round Up” which were great experiences.
To run a business in a remote area is very challenging and special. You have to think different regarding planning of everything from buying groceries to arrange meetings in other part of BC – the distances are a challenge and you have to get used to be “on the road” for quite a long time to get anywhere – we find it charming, but also a kind of waste of important time where you could do business work.

The huge wildfire this summer was another challenge. It ended up burning down about 20.000 Hectares. We were under “Evacuation Alert” for many weeks and more guests cancelled their stay here. Luckily the firefighters succeeded to stop the fire only 10 Kilometer from the ranch.
Despite the fire and the world recession we have had a good summer season and also in October and November we have some guests.
Our main goal this year has been to give the guests an “Experience of a Lifetime”. We have met so many happy people who have inspired us and given us a really good feedback. When living at a Guest Ranch you live as a big family – also together with the guests.
During the wintertime we will do a lot of maintenance and renovating of the buildings. The old Harrison House interior will be rebuilt and upgraded. The Sagebrush Inn will have a new outdoor “make-up” and some indoor improvements.
To fill the shoulder season our plans are to expand the Big Bar Guest Ranch “Concept” to include Team Building and Leader Training as Steen has worked with this kind of business for many years.
We have open all year round and the one you will meet on the phone or on arrival will be Lindsay, who takes good care of our guests together with the other staff.
Now we are looking forward to Christmas and New Year where we have made special programs.

We look forward to welcoming you at Big Bar Guest Ranch |
