Horseback riding
Feel the freedom that can only be experienced on horseback over open meadows in sparkling, powdery snow on sunny winter days. You will discover wildlife that will reach beyond your imagination.
We have vast open areas that have been untouched by modern civilization. Our rides follow natural trails through the timber or wide-open spaces, over rangelands and mountain meadows of Cariboo Cattle Country.

Cross-country skiing
Some of the best cross-country skiing terrain in Cariboo is in our backyard. You can depart directly from Big Bar Guest Ranch and access the backcountry trails.
Groomed trails are available within a 45-minute drive. Our guests are encouraged to bring their own equipment (skies, boots, etc.). However we do have some equipment here at the ranch that you are welcome to use.

Snowshoeing
Snowshoes have been the best way to trek around Canada's backwoods since they were invented centuries ago. Snowshoes allow you radical freedom in the backcountry that no other sport can parallel. Go anywhere and do anything. It’s truly a unique experience and is easy to learn. You will be assisted in learning how to use your snowshoes on a variety of terrain and at a level comfortable to you.

Tobogganing
When was the last time you hopped onto a toboggan? The spectacular run is an unforgettable toboggan adventure for the whole family.

Spend as much time as possible merrily sledding down a great toboggan hill before heading inside to enjoy a well deserved cup of hot chocolate. The toboggan is an invention of the Eastern First Peoples. Indian hunters first built toboggans made of bark to carry game over the snow.

Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is in full swing by mid-January for Kokanee, Rainbow Trout and the occasional Burbot. You can't say you have fished British Columbia until you have tried ice fishing! All ice fishing gear is provided to guests of Big Bar Guest Ranch.
